hi, i'm ash!
Travel writer & host, cultural explorer, and architecture & interiors freak.
Every week, we're exploring global culture through the lens of the home. From floorplans to fixtures, we examine how houses are built, designed, and decorated around the world (with a side of sass, of course!)
The only podcast where we pass on the pyramids and poke around in the plumbing. I’m Ash, and I'm, exploring the strange, smart, and wonderful ways houses are built, designed, and decorated around the world.
A new series of OTHER PEOPLE'S HOUSES books designed to help you try on a new life in different places around the world—by getting to "go behind closed doors" inside local homes to discover what it's really like to live there.
I love this article so much I just shared it with my “Chignon 7” business besties group. When imposter syndrome rears it’s ugly head I quote TMFP all the time and they throw it right back in my face when I falter as well. Thanks, Ash! xo Roberta
SO lovely to see you here, R! As always!!!!! My ride or die from Long Island. 🤩 Hope biz is good!!!
It is! It keeps me happy daily. xo
I’ll let you know how long it takes before I’m crawling out of my skin, ha!!!!! But, no: I have been craving an offline project, so I definitely got myself one. 😂 Everytime I have regrets I will just keep telling myself it’s charming!!!
Heck yes! This is so amazing. I’m at the other end of quit job, sell house, downsize and disappear for awhile. Preferably in Ireland. LOL. What a gorgeous house! <3
Oh, trust me – I’m sure I’ll be there in about 5 minutes. 😂 Especially to go to Ireland! I was hoping to get over that way this fall to do some walking—The Cotswolds in England is just soooooooooooo my kinda place. Rooting you on for this fun-ass journey!
Hi, Dani!!!!!!!!
Where have you been all my life? I’m in a complete “burn it all down” mindset about my over twenty year career and planning to pick up and move to Europe. It’s terrifying and exhilarating.
I just subscribed to your Substack!!! LOVE that you are chronicling this. I was just in Milan, Verona, Venice, Slovenia a few months ago. Yes, yes, yes!!!!!!!!!! Is Italy the final destination, you think?!
Italy is our #1 right now. Keeping things fluid on the how. I have several paths sketched out so it’s just a matter of which one starts to take shape. And THANK YOU for subscribing!! It’s nice when you make your declaration public – it keeps you accountable to show up for yourself when others are watching. Just subscribed to Selfish School too!
Looking forward to following along! Italy continues to be one of my favs on the list of “places I’d actually live.” KEEP GOING!!!!!!!!
Congratulations on the house AAAAAAsh!! I hope you turn the other one into a comfy Airbnb! 🤗
Omg THANK YOU!!!!! That’s def my plan! I can’t wait to make it all tartan / fires / whiskey / blankets / cozy / ski cabin galore!!!!!!!!!!!! I’ll have to hire you for a consult!!!!
Can’t wait to hear what you name it! 😂 A couple of weeks ago I was just reading about how thirsty travelers are for unique vacation rental design experiences. Everything from houseboats, to converted school buses and airplane hangars. Someone in Texas turned a cottage into a chic retreat inspired by the characters from the game Clue. There is the Colonel Mustard room, etc.
I feel like you know this already but in case you don’t….. I f*ckin’ love you. This article was everything.
What a LOVELY comment to find here today. Thank you for taking the time out of your life to leave it! And….HI!!!!! 💛
