hi, i'm ash!
Travel writer & host, cultural explorer, and architecture & interiors freak.
Every week, we're exploring global culture through the lens of the home. From floorplans to fixtures, we examine how houses are built, designed, and decorated around the world (with a side of sass, of course!)
The only podcast where we pass on the pyramids and poke around in the plumbing. Iβm Ash, and I'm, exploring the strange, smart, and wonderful ways houses are built, designed, and decorated around the world.
A new series of OTHER PEOPLE'S HOUSES books designed to help you try on a new life in different places around the worldβby getting to "go behind closed doors" inside local homes to discover what it's really like to live there.
I donβt know exactly what a boob-tart is, but it is my new favorite thing to say π
There’s nothing wrong a boob-tart who stays true to what they want. Cheers to new beginnings, Ash!
AAAAHH this is exciting π I’ve tagged along every time you moved somewhere new so I’m excited for this. (Online… I’m not under your floorboards I swear π)
Also, boob-tarts – microwavable or nah? I need answers π«ͺ

Wait, you’re leaving Substack? Need to know more about this new creation.
I want to have you come visit my book store (And B&B) when your new book launches so that I can sell the heck out of it, and also feed you some awesome cheeses and wine. Also, so I can put your new book next to The Middle Finger Project and also have signed copies. I’m only about four hours away from Pittsburgh, and so its not that far – and also you can swim in a river.
Fuck yes to all this. If you have the time, funds and a valid passport, you can take residential courses in DIY, Home Repair, and Building Your Own Home in the west of Ireland at the Common Knowledge centre in Kilfenora.
Did you meet up with the Catskills Crew guy??? Iβm still stalking his newsletter!
Yes! Substack is great but they dont”allow” you to post the same stuff elsewhere really. I like Medium because it is a place to repost with canonical links and still ahve my own site be the frist place I wrote it.
It’s time to take off on your own again. I don’t use substack a lot becasue all social media is owned by someone else. That is why I have seven websites. I post on social media but I dont give it all up here.
But if the internet blows up I will just have to take up writing on paper again, sigh. I like the interwebs soooooo much! but without petroleum products to start the solar power how will we run them?
Like everything you write, I love this! So no more Substack…. effective immediately? Very curious and intrigued to see what you are creating next. Keep it coming!
OK, wait…where do I follow you next? And, FYI, my first ever DIY was a print magazine. In the 90s.
